In the Netherlands, there is a rather attractive revenue model attached to renewable energy units (REU - Renewable Energy Units), which can be very interesting for your business if you own charging stations. Read more about what it is, how your business can take advantage of it, and how GRID can help your organization! What is an REU? An REU is a certificate for renewable energy in the Dutch transportation market. Companies that supply fossil fuels to transport have an obligation to offset their CO2 emissions with REUs. Conversely, companies that supply renewable energy to transport can create and sell REU certificates. The revenues from REUs can quickly add up. All this is done under the supervision of the Dutch Emissions Authority.

What do you get out of renewable energy units? Every kWh of renewable energy that you supply to electric transport earns you 0.0144 REU. At a price per renewable energy unit of 15 - 20 euros, that's 21 to 29 cents per kWh in additional revenue. On a typical selling price of 40 to 50 cents per kWh, that's significant. Note that the actual price of an REU depends entirely on the market where it is traded. There are also differences in whether you purchase electricity from the grid and whether you deploy a regular AC charging station or a DC fast charger.
Can your company make use of renewable energy units? If you already have or are going to realize a charging station from 10 charging points or more, it may be interesting to start using renewable energy units as an additional revenue model. This can generate additional income if, for example, you are active in logistics or charge employees' cars daily. There are several conditions your company has to meet before one can use REUs. First, you must own the grid connection to the charging stations. In addition, enough energy must be consumed before this system can be of interest to you. Also, the data on consumption must be transparent, so it can be established whether the requirements are met. This is where GRID comes into play!
What can GRID do for you? Registering and claiming REUs can be very time-consuming. There are different conditions attached to claiming deliveries of renewable energy in the Energy for Transport Registry. Hereby you must also consider the different types of REUs. Thanks to GRID's sustainable techniques, your energy can be properly monitored and made transparent. This makes claiming an REU much more efficient! Want to know more about what GRID can do for you?
